Ahh....there you are...an audience of one reading the blog of an "army of one." In other words, a homeschool mom in desperate need of a creative outlet. Or perhaps just an outlet...hmmm...maybe an outlet mall :-O But I digress.....
Both of our children have been homeschooled exclusively, that is to say they have never set foot in a public or private school classroom as a student. Since we have moved a few times it has been a challenge, but no more a challenge, I would imagine, than having them switch schools several times before their tenth birthdays. I love being with them, even though it is stressful and doesn't always bring out the best in me, but I am learning that this is Gods' method for pruning me and bringing to the surface some "issues" shall we say?
Since DH is away on business often I have most of the responsibility of day to day parenting and household management to do as well. To keep from getting too bored we particiate in flag football, dance, karate, guitar and piano lessons as well as several children's programs at our church. Now since we have one boy and one girl I am guessing you figured out that all of the above doesn't apply to any one child but to both of them together, though they do require chauffering by yours truly who is usually the only parent available at the time... so I admit we eat at a few fast food restaurants on the fly but eat our main healthy meal at lunchtime, for those nutrition police who may be reading this.
Today was a good day, but not a "school" day for the children as we all needed a break from our busy-ness to play and catch up on some paperwork, errands, etc. We do school year round so it usually works out fine to break when we need it and then get back on track.. Speaking of "track" I use Homeschool Tracker, a software program developed by a homeschool family to do lesson planning and keep up with attendance and other records. It is especially great to be able to print off a daily and/or weekly report for each child to check off his chores and school assignments.
For curriculum we are currently using Latina Christiana I, Bob Jones Math for third grade, Saxon 6/5 with D.I.V.E. C.D.s , BJU English, Story of the World and BJU Heritage Studies, as well as Considering God's Creation for Science. We also go to a co-op on Fridays for other classes. Though it can be hectic, we are blessed ....especially with our two new family members, Chloe and Daisy, our large-breed (shepherd mix) pound puppies, who each weigh over 30 pounds.
Not to mention our Mr. Kitty-Kitty who was here first...
